These two are the closest thing to direct competitors in this comparison set. Both take photographs of a room and return a cost. They diverge on one question that decides which is right for you: where the numbers come from.

"Not stated" means not stated. It is not a polite no. Their site did not address these, so they are left unknown rather than assumed absent.
What House Remodel Cost does better
- It is half the price and free to try. $9.99 against our $20, with a preview report that costs nothing and needs no signup. If budget is the deciding factor, this is not close.
- It is much faster. "Find Out Your Home Renovation Cost in 60 Seconds" is a real advantage when all you want is to know whether a project is plausible. Ours asks you to go and photograph things.
- It returns a timeline and a DIY-versus-professional view. Its report includes an "Estimated Project Timeline" and lets you pick your completion method up front. We do not produce a schedule at all.
The accuracy question, handled carefully
Their homepage states "98% Accuracy vs. Contractor Quotes." The same site also says the estimate "should be considered a strong starting point" and "is not a final, binding quote," and recommends getting multiple quotes from licensed professionals. Both of those are their words, and it would be unfair to quote one without the other.
We are not going to tell you their figure is wrong. We have not measured it and we have no basis to. What we will say is what we would want to know as a buyer, about any tool including ours:
- Measured against what? A remodel has no single true price until it is finished and paid for, and the same kitchen quoted by three contractors produces three different numbers, all of them real.
- Over how many completed projects, and when? A percentage without a sample size and a date is a claim, not a measurement.
- Is the study published? If a company has done that work, the study is the genuinely interesting artifact and it should be on the page.
We publish no accuracy percentage for exactly these reasons. The honest statement we can make instead is narrower and more useful: the estimate is as accurate as the share of it you have priced yourself. The real difference: an average versus your receipt
Both tools look at a photograph of your room. Only one of them looks at a photograph of your price tag.
That sounds like a detail and it is actually the whole product. Regional cost data can tell you what a mid-range vanity costs in your metro. It cannot tell you what the vanity you chose costs, because it has never seen it, and the gap between "mid-range vanity" and the specific one you fell for is frequently the difference between a budget that holds and one that does not.

What does the 98% accuracy claim mean?
Their homepage states "98% Accuracy vs. Contractor Quotes". The same site also says the estimate is "not a final, binding quote". Both are theirs. The useful question is what the figure was measured against, over how many completed projects, and on what date. We publish no accuracy percentage for that reason.
Do both read prices from product photos?
No. Both accept photos of a room. Only MyRemodelCalculator prices lines from photographs of the product price tags you chose. Their site describes regional and localized cost data, and does not state that it reads price tags.
Which one should I use?
If you want a fast ballpark before choosing anything, theirs is quicker and cheaper and the preview is free. If you have started choosing products and want the estimate priced from what you actually picked, that is what ours is built to do.
