MyRemodelCalculator, compared
We wrote these, which means you should read them the way you read any comparison published by one of the products in it. Here is what we do to keep them worth reading anyway.
The rules every page here follows:
- Every fact about another product is read off their own live pages, and the page carries the date it was read.
- Where their pages do not address something, the page says "not stated" rather than assuming an absence.
- Every page names at least one thing the other tool does genuinely better, and several name three.
- Every page discloses that we make MyRemodelCalculator.
- Prices go stale. If a figure is wrong, that is our error to fix, and the verification date tells you how much to trust it.
vs QuoteChecker.ai
They audit a contractor quote you already hold, flagging vague scope and padded lines. We build the independent baseline you check a quote against. Adjacent jobs, and a lot of people should use both.
vs House Remodel Cost
The closest direct competitor: photos in, cost out. Cheaper and faster than us, with a free preview. Publishes a 98% accuracy figure; we publish none, and the page explains what a buyer should ask about any such number.
vs Remodelum
Free, and built on a database of real renovation projects with ZIP-level labour data — a pricing source we do not have at all. Covers whole houses, additions and basements. The comparison turns on whether you have chosen products yet.
What all three comparisons come down to
Every tool here, ours included, has to answer one question: where does a number on a line come from?
Two of these price from regional or database averages, which is a reasonable answer and sometimes the only possible one. One audits a quote somebody else wrote. What MyRemodelCalculator does differently is price from the product price tags you photograph yourself — your price, your store, the day you were standing there — and label every line by which of those three sources it came from.
That matters less than it sounds when you have chosen nothing, and more than it sounds once you have. It is also why we publish no accuracy percentage: the honest version of that claim is that an estimate is as accurate as the share of it you priced yourself. The full method is in how we estimate.
